Last 15th of March, World Consumer Day was celebrated to promote the fundamental rights of all consumers and to demand that they be respected and protected. From the project #AnnualFoodAgenda, powered by EIT Food and financed by the European Union, we want to encourage a sustainable and conscious consumption, which cares about the welfare of people and the planet.
Fears about food contamination and food authenticity, which we discover every day in the media, have led to consumer concern and a loss of confidence in the global food system, undermining confidence in the transparency, safety and integrity of the food value chain.
The European EIT Food Consortium, aware of this issue, is therefore supporting consumers to become change makers. The aim is to achieve an intelligent, inclusive and reliable food system. To achieve this change, it is necessary to make consumers aware of value food and its sustainable “cost”, as well as the importance of disseminating scientific results to establish new policies in this area. As part of the communication activities developed within the framework of the #AnnualFoodAgenda project, the CSIC (Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), a partner in this project, has produced an informative video under the slogan #TrustInFood. The viewers will be able to take a trip around the supermarket and analyze, through different examples, citizens’ concerns about the authenticity of food, false food myths, as well as the impact of food on environmental sustainability and consumer preferences.
