On October 19, 2021, we had fun and learned a lot of new things about water during the “Let there be water!” Event. Over 200 children accepted our challenge and came full of energy, good mood and curiosity to our workshop, where the theoretical notions were intertwined with play in a dynamic, interactive and friendly environment.
What is important for the body? When and how is it good to drink water? What are the qualities and properties of water? What other planets can we meet? What can we do to avoid wasting water, given that just over 1% of the water available on Earth is fresh, potable water? These are just some of the questions we answered together, together with Irina Vasile, teacher for primary education, Facilitator for Open Mindset in Education and SuperTeach teacher and actress Violeta Mitescu.
To test their attention and to check what they remembered from what was discussed, our facilitators organized a game in Baamboozle between teams of girls and boys, then used Padlet, which allowed the children to note curiosities about water. But in addition to the “theoretical” notions they accumulated, the children also played: they had an experiment with “singing glasses”, and in the end they were left with an avalanche of thoughts and feelings with which they left this meeting, all kept in chat.
Did you know that?
Only half of the parents and teachers who enrolled their children or students in the event consider that the little ones drink enough water, which proves the need for events on this topic addressed to children. In an hour and a half of interactive activities, the children learned more about the importance of water for both the human body and our ecosystem.
In addition, the event was equally interesting for parents, who want to have access to alternative education methods that contribute to the harmonious development of their children. For them, the Health Champions was a learning opportunity in which they learned in real time about the methods that are needed to help children successfully integrate new notions and behaviors. Certainly many of them will apply the techniques presented during the event to convince their children to hydrate properly and lay the foundations for a healthier lifestyle.
