On Tuesday 29 June the Cambridge Global Food Security held its first online public engagement webinar within the sustainability theme of the #AnnualFoodAgenda 2020, a project powered by EIT Food and financed by the European Union.
Just before summer holidays we launched an educational campaign and shared an educational video with primary school pupils about “Healthy eating basics #TrustYourFood“.
Both scientists from the Institute of
Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IARFR
PAS) and experts from Maspex company were involved in creating this educational
material. The content of the film is presented by Dr. Małgorzata Starowicz
(IARFR PAS), a scientist who is
experienced in working with children. In the video there is elucidated how to
interpret a “Pyramid of Healthy Eating” – a graphic description of
various groups of food products necessary in the daily diet, presented in
appropriate proportions (the higher level of the pyramid, the smaller amount
and frequency of consumed products). Moreover, it was explained that scientific
research in recent years has shown how important in the proper growing up of
children and adolescents, besides healthy eating, are: physical activity,
proper sleep and limited using of computers, mobile phones and other electronic
devices. Therefore, we are currently talking about “Pyramid of Healthy
Eating and Healthy Lifestyle”, making it clear that to be healthy, proper
nutrition must be implemented together with the rest of the lifestyle.
We hoped that holidays will be a great time for children
to devote at least part of their attention to issues related to proper
nutrition. Thanks to the cooperation with the management and teachers of
selected schools, video was delivered to pupils in June.
